The Great Ocean Road delivers dramatic coastal scenery, but conditions can shift quickly, so packing right matters.
Layer your clothing — mornings can be cool even in summer, and coastal wind picks up fast. Bring a good set of walking shoes for lookout trails at the Twelve Apostles and Loch Ard Gorge, plus a reusable water bottle and snacks for stretches between towns.
Don’t forget a printed map as a backup — mobile reception drops out in several sections of the route. And pack a headlamp; some of the best photo opportunities are at dawn before the crowds arrive.
